A birthday poem and song for Dimitri

February

February birds came back today
and filled the morning sun with
their songs. The thaw of winter
not yet upon us. Longer days inch forward
minute by minute, drop by melting snow drop.
Shortened shadows predicting
the future. Drowsy dreams still
in the waking hour. February is the
dawn of rebirth.
