random memory #4

My beautiful glamorous Tyotya (aunt) would fly in on TWA during its heyday with a whirl of perfume, French twist, jewels, hats and high heels! She always made a fuss over my sister and me bringing us expensive gifts like gold bracelets with our names engraved on the gold heart, Alexander dolls from "Sound of Music", Steif puppets and Mishka bear for my brother. She introduced us to children's classics with hard covered books about Peter Pan, King Arthur, Robin Hood among others. She taught us proper table etiquette and introduced us to restaurants (we ate at home everyday otherwise!).

She won Miss Soyuzivka in New York in the 60's, was a model during Suzy Parker days in NYC, went to Julliard School of music and studied opera. She sang so beautifully, she made her own gowns as well as my mom's wedding dress back in Belgium, played the piano was always upbeat and positive! She was a famous Opera singer in Europe and went by the name of Wira Wassily.. She introduced us to Broadway in NYC and took us to FAO Schwarz Toy store for a magical day! She was a huge influence on my sister and me. We epitomized her. She embodied beauty, talent and intelligence in every way.
