Calendar of Events 2016 Centennial Year of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens
Here is list of planned events for our 100th Year Celebration! This list is tentative and may change, so please check back often for updates. More events to be added in the next few months. March 13, Sunday at 12 PM - 3 PM-Maslenitsa (Pancake"Blintzes" Carnival)-Rockefeller Park Greenhouse, 750 E 88th St, Cleveland, Ohio 44108- Big Maslenitsa (Pancake"Blintzes" Carnival) in the Rockefeller Park Greenhouse, nearby the Russian Cultural Garden of Cleveland. There will be a lot of food (Russian blintzes), family activities, music, and contests.
April 2, Saturday, EASTER EGG HUNT at the Lithuanian Cultural Garden- 12 noon!! Join us in the Lithuanian Cultural Garden for some family fun! FREE event!!
April 8, Friday- Our Centennial Gala- a formal dinner, dance, silent auction, video presentations, celebrity MC, and Keynote Speaker. Intercontinental Hotel -6 PM
April 16, Saturday- “ Spring Fling IX, International Wine Tasting and Craft Beers” for the Hungarian Garden. On April 16th, 6-8PM. Colonial Beverages, 8389 Mayfield Rd., Chesterland, $40. Call Marcia 440-442-3413
June 5, Sunday- “The Annual Lithuanian Cultural Gardens Picnic at the Lake Fundraiser” celebrating 100 years of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. Starts at Noon at the East Shore Beach Club on Dorchester.
June 12, Sunday- “A Celebration of the British Cultural Garden in Honor of their 100th Anniversary”- noon until 6pm.
There will be an Afternoon tea, ice cream, Union Jack cupcakes, a Dance demonstration, Maypole, Photos with Queen, Mini Coopers, lawn bowls, demos, children's activities, coloring pages, Shakespeare reading or poetry. There will be discussions of the history of the British Garden, and the history of the DBE, also encouraging people to sign up for "Friends of the Garden". All things British--History, Entertainment, Food and Culture. Plus much more!
June 18, Saturday- 3PM. “Concert in the Croatian Cultural Garden” this summer. Part of a long list of concerts and activities celebrating 100 years of the Gardens. Featuring Cleveland Junior Tamburitzans and other music and dance groups. Free to the Public.
June 18, Saturday- 1-4PM. "Juneteenth in the African American Cultural Garden" Dedication of "The Door of No Return" , Libation Ceremony and more! Part of a long list of concerts and activities celebrating 100 years of the Gardens.
June 19, Sunday -1:30PM. " Dedication of the Bust of Mileva Maric in the Serbian Cultural Garden” You are invited to the dedication of the bust of Mileva Maric at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Serbian Cultural Garden. The Serbian Cultural Garden is located on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Cleveland, Ohio 44108. Parking at the Serbian Garden is possible off the roadway or at the Samuel Miller Park on East Boulevard and East 88th Street (across from the Rockefeller Park Greenhouse). Mileva Maric is the first woman to be honored in the Serbian Cultural Garden. She was a brilliant Serbian physicist and mathematician and the first wife of Albert Einstein. Theirs was an intellectual partnership, and Mileva is credited for having made significant contributions to his scientific achievements Food and refreshments will be available.
June 23, Thursday - "Groundbreaking ceremony in the Russian Cultural Garden" Check back for details!
June 26, Sunday- 1 PM. “Estonian Cultural Garden's 50th Anniversary, Victory Day, and Jaanipäev” in the Estonian Cultural Garden. Free event. Followed by a Luncheon at Gintaras Restaurant at the Lithuanian Community Center, 877 E.188th St. Cleveland, OH. The Luncheon is 15$ for adults, 6$ for children (6-12 y.o.) RSVP to Toomas Tubalkain.
June 26, Sunday - 10 am till 4:00 pm. "Brunch a la Vietnam to Benefit Vietnamese Cultural Garden" It starts at 10 am at the Saigon Plaza, 5400 Detroit Ave. Cleveland, Ohio, call for information at (216) 273.7323.
June 26, Sunday- Concert in the Hungarian Garden - “Liszt Concert in the Garden.” Free concert. June 26, 2016 – 3:00 pm. Featuring a 9 ft. concert grand piano played by Vera Holczer. Following the concert is “Picnic on the Lake” cost is 45$. For picnic reservations please email: cebalough@aol.com. July 20, Wednesday- Golf Fund Raiser and Dinner for the Hungarian Garden- Part of a long list of concerts and activities celebrating 100 years of the Gardens. Details will follow.
July 23, Saturday- “A Tribute to the Shakespeare Garden circa 1916” Exhibit of rare artifacts and programs-Cleveland Public Library
July 31, Sunday - 6:00-7:30 pm - "Opera in the Italian Garden" Well known music from famous operas with Opera Circle Cleveland and the Cleveland Ballet. Wood fired pizza and gelato on site. Free wine tastings. Bring a chair and a picnic. Free concert, free parking.
August 6- “The Children’s Fair in the Cultural Gardens” Several Educational Institutions along with various Gardens are planning to host the youth of Cleveland to provide a day of ethnic cultural events to develop understanding through story telling, games, food, dance, literature and dancing. Check back for details.
August 13 &14- The first of progressive dinners involving various Gardens. Our guests will start in one Garden and be treated to the music of some of our great composers along with cocktails and appetizers, then move to another Garden for a light meal and ethnic singing and finally move to the last Gardens for dessert and ethnic dance performances and music. Check back for more details.
August 20&21- Second of the progressive dinners moving through many Gardens similar to above event only focusing on art in cooperation with CMA, chamber music and composition in cooperation with The Cleveland Orchestra and literature in cooperation with CWRU. Details to follow!
August 28, Sunday- “One World Day” A HUGE Celebration of our 100th Anniversary in ALL the Gardens!! This event combines all of the Cultural Gardens working together to make a day of celebration of diversity and to celebrate the Centennial of the History of the Gardens. Please check back for additional information.
Sept. 11, 2016, Sunday – 2:00 pm – Benefit for Italian Cultural Garden. Chef Dante Boccuzzi Pranzo. Michelin starred Chef Boccuzzi creates a special menu of specialties from Italy at Dante’s Restaurant in Tremont. $110 pp. Tax, gratuity and all wines with courses included. Sept. 29-Oct. 13 – Thursdays – 7:30 pm – Cleveland Italian Film Festival at the Cedar Lee, Atlas Cinemas Eastgate, and Capitol theaters. Award winning films from Italy with English subtitles.
